My Vacation from A to Z --- (P) continued

I am not sure why my post did not "save" before, when I was writing about my "P" words, but oh well! Here's the rest of the list!

P is for PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

This is the professional baseball team in Philadelphia. Right now, they are the #1 team in the nation for Major League Baseball. While we were in Philadelphia, we saw so many people wearing Phillies t-shirts!! This annoyed Miranda to no end!! She is a huge Atlanta Braves fan -- she even wore her Braves shirt one morning, while we were there! (You'll see in an upcoming pic!) Even David's mother is a HUGE Phillies fan! So, we had to suffer thru watching a game with her! LOL

 

P is for PRETZELS

 

Another food that Philadelphia is famous for is their Soft Pretzels!! They are SO YUMMY!! David's mom even had some for us when we arrived at her house!! But... we also went to the Pretzel Factory.. not once.... but twice!! .... to get MORE of them!! It's a good thing that we can't get these down in Georgia! I would be in trouble!! LOL!

P is for PLAZA HOTEL

One of the places that I wanted to see while we were in NYC was the famous Plaza Hotel. I remember it well from the movie "Home Alone, Lost in New York". I'm sure that other movies have been made there as well, but this is the one that I know of the most. I just wanted to walk into that enormous lobby that Kevin walked thru, in the movie!

The lobby was HUGE!!! I never did see the front desk!

P is for Parking

We quickly learned that parking in big cities isn't too easy! In Atlantic City, we found a parking lot with no problem. It was also reasonably priced. In downtown Philly, we had a hard time finding a place to park! We finally found a place on the street and we dumped money into the meter. When we went to Pat's Steaks, we parked two blocks away at the CVS! Hey... it was free!

In Washington DC, we asked a police officer where we could park and he told us that parking was free on government streets, but when we found parking on the streets... there were signs that were posted that confused us about the cost and the time limit, so we were afraid to park there. (Later... we saw that same cop putting tickets on cars parked on the street!! YIKES!! Was he trying to set us up?) We ended up finding a parking garage and parked there. Although, we had trouble "finding" our car when we returned! And then, once we found our car.... we had trouble finding our way OUT of the parking garage!! It was crazy!!

In NYC, we wanted to ride the Staten Island Ferry first, so we had to find parking for it. We "thought" that there would be a parking lot for it, but nope.... there wasn't. We had to ask someone where to park. They directed us to a parking garage where we had to pay WAY more than we had planned to!! Then, the only parking for our hotel was "valet parking" which cost us more than we have EVER paid to park ANYWHERE!! ~ WOW!!!

Thrifty Finds

My best friend, Diana, came down my way for the day on Saturday. She loves the "art" of of thrifting as much as I do, so I knew that we would have fun!

I told Diana that I was on the hunt for Tablescaping items for September and October.

For September, I had the idea of a "Football" theme -- See this post for my inspiration.

For October, I had the idea of a "Halloween" theme -- Again, see this post for my inspiration.

I totally forgot to take pictures as we were hunting for treasures!!! So, I took pictures of my items after I got home.

Ever since I redecorated (sort of) my living room, I have needed something for the wall between my window and my entertainment center. I had the idea of buying two vertical plate racks that might hold two or three plates each. I hadn't found exactly what I was looking for, until.... I found THIS plate rack!! It is a double plate rack!! I just knew it would be perfect for the wall space that I had, and it is! --- Price paid: $12.99!

Diana and I searched for the perfect size plates for my new plate rack, but only found these two. They are "dessert size" plates, I believe. The yellow one is just a simple design. --- Price paid: $.85! The red one is a unique "flower" design. I can tell that it came from Target. --- Price paid: $3.50. (a little more than I would have wanted to pay, but I really liked it!

See how the "curves" in the plate rack go so well with my curtain rod! I also have those same curves in my lamps and other things in my house.

I also found this Eitenne Aigner handbag!! It looks like it is real, but I am not positive that it is. -- If any of you know how to tell... please let me know! From what I have read about them online, I think that it is! This one is in PERFECT condition!! -- Price paid: $9.95!!! (They seem to be over $100, if bought new!!)

I found this Vera Bradley Curling Iron Cover, too!! I've been wanting one for a while now. In fact... I was wishing that I had one of these on our recent vacation! -- Price paid: $6.00!! - (They retail for about $20.00!)

I found these cute Halloween Decorations that will look great on a

Halloween Table!

Big Pumpkin -- $1.00

I wasn't totally sold on these cute Halloween Plates because of the "purple" color, but decided to get them anyway since they were so cheap! -- Price paid: $1.88 for all four!

I really liked these cool haystacks (at least I think that's what the are!). They will go great for a Fall Tablescape!! -- Price paid: $1.75 each!

I am going to keep looking for Football related items for my Football Tablescape. If I can't find anything soon, I'll have to think of another idea!

Excitement With a Cold

I am excited this morning, but also feeling a bit "run down". My very best friend, Diana, is coming down from Atlanta this morning to spend the day with me. I am excited about taking her to my favorite Thrift Shops!! I haven't been thrifting since my other good friend, Georgia, came to visit me.

I don't have anything specific that I am looking for, but I would like to look for some things for my "September" or "October" tablescapes. I have no idea what I want to do for September!! Miranda suggested a "Football" theme. I really like that idea, but finding stuff for it might present a challenge. October will be easy! I want to do a "Halloween" themed table with orange, black & yellow. I should have a few things for it already, but I will be on the lookout for more today.

I don't feel 100% today. Yesterday, as the day went on, I began to feel like I was getting a head cold. NOT FUN!! I did not sleep well last night -- I should have bought the Nyquil that I thought about buying! -- I'll get some for tonight! -- But, a head cold will NOT stop me from spending the day thrifting with Diana!!

August Tablescape

Yes!! I know that I am a bit late. I was hoping to add to this tablescape, but never got around to it! Oops!! Soo... here is what my table has looked like for the whole month of August. Forgive me for the pictures not looking so good. I was in a hurry this morning! The lighting is bad. I know. I am linking to Between Naps on the Porch for Tablescape Thursday. (Yes. I am late for it, too!!)

I picked up most of these items at a thrift store in Columbus, GA called... "Joey's". The coral dishes, the tablecloth, the heart dishes, and the little green sherbert bowls were all bought on the same day. The crystal plates and green glasses were/are my mother's. The candlesticks were bought at Joey's too. I never did get any candles for them! Oops!

I stole borrowed this pretty flower from Ashley's room. It matched my color scheme perfectly!!

Couldn't resist these cute little dishes! Too bad they only had four.

But.... there were only 4 of these coral colored plates, anyway. So, it worked out.

I fell in LOVE with these little green sherbert bowls!!!! They came in a set of 6. So pretty!!

I picked up this "tablecloth" in a booth for only a $1.

I was having fun finding dishes to go with it!

Hmmm...... who is that over there stealing the spotlight from my picture??

My Vacation From A to Z --- (O and P)

O is for ORGAN

David's mom has been an organist for her church, as long as David can remember. I believe that she can play the piano, as well. This was the first time that my girls got to see their Grandma play the organ at church. It was a real treat!

P is for PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA

David was born and raised in Philadelphia. It seems that his whole family was!! It's funny... but, when I was little and would watch The Miss America pageant on TV, I would always root for three states... Georgia (of course), Texas, and Pennsylvania. I have no idea WHY I picked the other two states, but for whatever reason... I did. I just think that it's funny that I married a guy from Pennsylvania!! Also.... as a young teenager, one of my very favorite songs was "Philadelphia Freedom" by Elton John! I honestly never dreamed I would meet a guy (and MARRY him!!!) from Philadelphia!! Was God trying to tell me something??? Hmmm....

P is for PIZZA

It's funny... we had pizza in almost every state that we visited!! LOL!

We had pizza at a little place on the Atlantic City boardwalk. You can see the place just to the right, in this picture.

We had pizza in Philadelphia with David's mom. It's was funny.... she was a "celebrity" when we walked in!! They all knew her!! LOL!! -- THIS pizza was my favorite!!!

We also had pizza in NYC. We had seen this place on one of the Food Channel TV shows! The pizza was "ok". I liked the date. It's been around as long as I have! **Smile**

P is for PAT'S STEAKS and PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS

Philadelphia is known for it's "Philly Cheese Steaks". There are two places in Philly that claim that they have the original sandwich. "Pat's Steaks" is one, and "Geno's" is the other. David's family has always favored "Pat's". One of our destinations, while in Philly, was to go to Pat's Steaks and get a Cheese Steak sandwich. The girls had never been.

We FINALLY found a place to park... two blocks away! The line to order a sandwich, was wrapped around the building!!!
