This blog is basically just a collection of my "random thoughts". I must warn you, though. I have been told that "I write like I talk", so if you don't understand what you are reading... chances are, if you met me... I wouldn't make much sense to you! Feel free to comment if you care to. Or not. I'm good either way!

A to Z Blog Challenge - Q

I thought letter "Q" would be quite hard, but it was actually quite easy!

Letter Q

Quilts

I think quilts are so very beautiful! I have quite a few of them! Some are old and some are fairly new. The old ones are some that either my grandmother or my great-aunt made. Then, I have one that my mother started and never finished. David's mother made each of my girls one and also one for David and I. One of my favorite trips that I went on was when I flew up to Philadelphia to visit David's mother. She took me to Lancaster, Pennsylvania where the Amish People live. I took many pictures of the quilts that I saw! They were so pretty!! I can quilt a little and would love to learn more about it someday.

Quiet

This is something that I REALLY enjoy! I love having my quiet mornings to myself each day. And on the rare occasions that I am home alone during the day, I usually like to enjoy the quietness and not turn on the TV or radio. I read better if there is quiet rather than noise, too.

Qualify

When I hear this word, I think of when we lived in Atlanta. David used to be able to get tickets thru his company to go and watch the Nascar race cars, race around the track in order to qualify for the upcoming race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. We used to have SUCH a good time doing that! We got to sit in the company's private suite and were able to get free food! We also got a special pass to go down to the "pits" to get up close and personal with the drivers and the cars. It was great fun and I wish that this "perk" was still available.

Quarterback

Football is my VERY favorite sport!! Of course, the quarterback is one of the most important players! I don't really have a "favorite" quarterback. I just have a favorite team --- The Atlanta Falcons!!!

Queen

This word comes to mind because the "Royal Wedding" is in the news so much right now. I heard today that the Queen finally got to meet the young bride's -- Kate Middleton -- parents today. I wonder what they thought of each other!

Weekend Wrap Up

I hope all of my blogging friends had a wonderful weekend! It was BEAUTIFUL here in West Central Georgia! I was so glad to see the sunshine and it's warmness!

Friday --- I went with Ashley to her induction ceremony for the Education Program at her college. We didn't know what  to expect, so we dressed nice and got over there in plenty of time to get a good seat. We went to the table that was set up in front of the room that we were to be in and Ashley gave the lady her name. The lady gave Ashley her certificate and we got a proram. There weren't many people there yet, so we had no problem finding a seat at a table. They had a small (very small!) table set up with some breakfast foods --- all store-bought pastries. I took a very small poppysead muffin and a very small apple danish thing. The muffin tasted old, so I didn't eat it. Blech! The danish was ok. The "ceremony" was very lame, to say the least. They just had the students stand up, all together, to be recognized. No individual names were called out. Then, they went over the Student Handbook, of all things! Then, that was it. It was time to go. So... I didn't take any pictures, since it really wasn't that kind of an event. Oh well. I am still very proud of Ashley for her accomplishments!

In the evening, we went to the concert. It was VERY GOOD!! Here are some pics that I took. The "close ups" were pics that I took of the "jumbotron". I was glad that they had those! :)

This is Jerrod Niemann. He is an up & coming country musician. He has a couple of songs that are being played on the radio right now. He sang those and a few more that we hadn't heard yet. He was VERY good!

Next.... Darius Rucker performed. He used to be the leader singer of the group called... "Hootie and the Blowfish". We love his music!

During his performance, Brad Paisley pulled one of his famous pranks and had several audience members spray Darius with Silly String!!! It was so funny!!

He just kept on singing!

Then, during Darius' rendition of "Purple Rain" (a Prince song), this guy came out dressed as cupid, throwing purple glitter everywhere!! Too funny!!

Now, it was time for Brad Paisley to sing!! This was his H2O Tour, the letters here said that before they sunk into the ground. I missed the shot! Ooops!

Then, brad appears from what looks like a swimming pool!! Very cool!

Here he is again, in front of the "water".

I like this picture! In one of his songs, he mentions The Beatles!

He put on quite a show for his fans!

He even came down to the "cheap seats" (where we were!) and performed a couple of songs on what looked like a swimming pool!

At the end of the concert, it was one big party on stage!

We had a great time and saw lots of people that we knew. Miranda even got to see her 3rd grade teacher!! It was fun to get to talk with her! Miranda was so excited! Mrs. Galyon was (and has always been!) her very favorite teacher!

Saturday --- David and I took our bikes down to Columbus and rode them 15 miles on the fairly new bike trail that the city has added!! It is part of what I think is a nation-wide program called.... "Rails to Trails". The bike trail is put where old train tracks used to be. We had a great ride! The weather was perfect!

Sunday --- We went to church first. Ashley's boyfriend, Nick, joined us for the first time. It was a new experience having our family of 6 (the four of us +2) spread out across a whole row of seats!! It felt really nice to have us all there together.

We hung out at the house for the rest of the day and watched the Nascar race in the afternoon. We decided to make it interesting and place bets (small bets - $2) on who would win. We each got to pick one driver to be our favorite driver and then we drew names for four more. Ashley was the winner! Jeff Gordon won. He is NOT one of our favorite drivers, but because she drew his name... she won the cash! It was a fun way to enjoy the race.

Now, it's Monday and I'm anxious to get to town and go to the gym and to the grocery store before the rain comes this afternoon. We might get some storms. I kinda' hope so! I love thunderstorms!

Bucket List #46-48

#46 --- Attend a NASCAR race and watch from the stands --- I already wrote about wanting to watch a race from the infield on top of a camper, but I would also love to go to a race and watch it from the stands! Yes, I know that it would be crowded. But, I don't mind crowds. Hubby is the one that doesn't like them! Dtr. #1 isn't too thrilled with them, either! I just want to go to a race and experience it... LIVE!

#47 --- Go on a yearly mother/daughter retreat --- I can think of SO MANY places that the girls and I could go to! I already mentioned one of them.... The Country Music Festival in Nashville! But, there are others. We would pick places that Hubby has no interest in going to that way he wouldn't feel so left out!

#48 --- Fly first class at least once --- I am not a "frequent flyer" and when I have been on a plane, it has always been "coach", because of the cost! What's even worse is flying "stand by"!! NOT FUN!! You don't know until the last minute if you are going to have a seat on the plane!! This is very nerve-racking! So, I would love to have the experience of flying FIRST CLASS, at least once in my lifetime!

Bucket List #34-36

#34 --- Attend another Falcons game --- The Atlanta Falcons are MY football team. They have been for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching the Falcons and the Braves with my Daddy. What I know about both games, I learned from him. Although I went to many Braves games with my Daddy, I never really developed a love for baseball. I enjoy football so much more! I never went to a Falcon's game with my Daddy. The only Falcon's game that I ever went to was with a guy that went to the same church that I did. I didn't even really "like" the guy, but I wasn't going to say NO to an invite to go to a Falcon's game! --- So, all that being said.... I would love to go to another game someday!

#35 --- Attend a UGA game --- My Daddy loved the Georgia Bulldogs, too. We didn't watch them on TV, tho. We would listen to them on the radio. This would mostly happen when we were traveling back to Atlanta from Columbus, GA on Sunday afternoons after visiting my grandparents. I didn't really continue following the "DAWG'S" much after my dad died, back in 1983. It wasn't until Hubby & I moved our family south to West Central Georgia in 1998, that I started following and watching the Georiga Bulldogs again. This area of Georgia seems to be the COLLEGE FOOTBALL CAPITOL of the state!! You hardly ever run into someone that ISN"T a college football fan! Most are either UGA fans, AUBURN fans, or ALABAMA Fans. Because I am from Georgia and grew up "listening" to the DAWGS on the radio.... I am and ALWAYS WILL BE.... a GEORGIA BULLDOG FAN! -- Despite Dtr. # 2's love for Auburn! Hahaa! Now, I just wanna' go to a game!

#36 --- Attend a NASCAR race and watch from the infield on top of a camper --- I am not sure where or when I developed a love for Nascar Racing. That is one thing that I didn't get from my Daddy! Although, I guess I did get my love of cars from him. But, I have always loved cars & racecars for as long as I can remember. I guess that's how I started watching Nascar. As much as I love the sport (Yes! It IS a sport!)... I have never been to a race. Hubby & I have been to the "qualifying" several times thru the company that he works for, but unfortunately.... they don't offer that "perk" anymore. Most race tracks have an area in the "infield" where you can bring a camper or motorhome and park it there to watch the race. I think it would be SO MUCH FUN to do this! I would want to watch the race from the top of a motorhome, that way you can see all (or at least... most of!) the track.
