This blog is basically just a collection of my "random thoughts". I must warn you, though. I have been told that "I write like I talk", so if you don't understand what you are reading... chances are, if you met me... I wouldn't make much sense to you! Feel free to comment if you care to. Or not. I'm good either way!

A to Z Blog Challenge - D

Letter D

David

Well, of course he is my #1 pick for the letter D! **Smile** Here's a brief rundown of how we met. David and I met on Thanksgiving of 1981. I was just two weeks shy of being 17, and he was 18. I was a Senior in high school, and he was in his first year of college. I was living in Stone Mountain, GA at the time. David was attending college in Daytona Beach, Florida. (Lucky him!) His mom & dad had recently divorced and his dad had moved to Stone Mountain and was my neighbor in the apartments that I lived in. My dad and David's dad were friends. They shared a love for cars. David came up from Florida to spend Thanksgiving with his dad. His dad introduced us and the rest is history!! We have been together for what will be 26 years on April 19th! It was love at first sight for both of us and I quickly knew that we would be together forever!

Daddy

The second most important man in my life was my Daddy. He was a young 53 when he died of a heart attack. He was very sick, tho. He had a heart disease and he had diabetes. He grew up in Columbus, GA and played high school football. I have been told that a professional football team approached him about playing for their team, but he chose to go into the Navy, instead. He served two years on an aircraft carrier during the Korean War. Luckily, he never saw any battle. I miss him so very much, as I have told you all before. My biggest regret is not spending enough time with him before he passed. I was a selfish teenager and my "social life" was more important at that time than spending time with my parents. I was hardly ever home. I love you, Daddy!

Disney

My first memory of Walt Disney World is of visiting the "Sneak Peak" before the park even opened! We saw a model of what Magic Kingdom would look like and got to see a film about it. Of course, there was a gift shop, too! I have a picture of myself with a stuffed animal of the cat O'Malley from Disney's movie...The Aristocrats. Of course, we visited Walt Disney World after it opened, too. I have memories of riding Dumbo with my cousin and him not letting me make Dumbo go up and down! I also remember riding Space Mountain with my Daddy. He sat behind me and I sat in between his legs. (I don't think it is that way anymore.) I remember him trying to hold on to me, his glasses in his pocket and the side of the rocket ship that we were riding in! It was great fun! ~ When my girls were ages 6 & 10, David and I took them to WDW for their first time! It was SO AWESOME!! The first day, we were standing in line at the monorails, waiting to ride to Magic Kingdom, when a man in a suit and tie came over to us and asked us if we would like to OPEN THE PARK!!!!! We of course said... YES! So, they pulled us out of line and we go to stand in front of everyone else that was waiting to go in and release a banner that announced the opening of the park! Then, we got to ride in the front of the monorail, where Miranda got to beep the horn! We also got an official certificate saying that we "opened the park". It was way cool!! My girls had a blast and so did David & I. It is a vacation that none of us will ever forget!

Dreams

Dreams fascinate me. I dream often and my dreams seem SO REAL! Most of the time, they are good dreams. I don't have "bad" dreams very often. I don't always remember them, but often... I do. I love to try and figure out the meaning behind my dreams the next day. Sometimes I can figure them out and sometimes, I can't. They just amaze me, tho!

Dogs

I am a dog-lover. I especially like BIG DOGS! Big dogs, like my Golden's or even big dogs like Mastiff's! I grew up having a little dog, tho. She was a Toy Fox Terrier. She was wonderful! Her name was Penny. Later, as an adult, I got bit by a small poodle... so, I guess that is why I prefer big dogs. I got bit by a cat once, too!

Don't you just hate it when.....

you have your whole day mapped out and then... BAM! ... things change!!
Yep. This is what happened to me today. I took off work so that I could be at the hospital this morning when my mom was discharged from the hospital. (This would be a non-paid day off, since I used my 3 paid days when I had my surgery!)

When I arrived (about 9:00am), I passed my mom's heart doctor at the nurses station. I thought to myself... "Oh good! He's here! That means that I should see him soon and he will release her soon." He was busy, of course, so I didn't stop to talk to him.

I went down the hall to my mom's room and found her sound asleep! I snuck in and sat down with my "everything bagel" that I stopped and bought at Panera Bread. YUM!! I turned the TV to my favorite morning channel and sat there, in peace, eating my bagel, waiting for the doctor to arrive and release my mom.

My mom awoke to the nurse coming in to do her job, about 30 minutes after I arrived. After the nurse left, she fell back to sleep and I enjoyed more "me time". **Smile**

The next time the nurse came in, I asked her when the doctor was going to come and release my mom. She, of course, had no clue!

So.... I waited some more. I watched TV. My mom snoozed. I read my book. My mom snoozed.

Finally.... about 11:30am, her heart doctor came in. He said that he wanted to keep her another night to continue draining the fluid off her lungs.

My heart sank, but I understood.

Now, I had to make the dreaded phone call to the nursing home to beg plead ask for more time to be given to us so that my mom would not lose her place at the nursing home, without us paying the extra expense.

Thankfully, the director granted us another day! So.... I am now praying (again) that my mom goes home TOMORROW!

I hate that I wasted a day of not going to work. I don't think I can afford to miss another day, so I WILL be going to work tomorrow, but my phone will be GLUED to my side!!

you are in the middle of typing a blog post, email, letter, etc. and then... BAM!! ... the screen goes blank!!
This happened to me as I started to write this post!! I HATE when that happens! Thankfully, Blogger saves your posts in a draft!

you just clean your carpets and then... BAM!! ... the dog tracks in mud!!
Yep. This happened just the other day! We don't get rain for weeks!!! And as soon as we clean the carpets.... here comes the monsoon! Guess it's a good thing that we now own a carpet shampooer!

you get a flower garden planted and then.... BAM!! .... the dog digs it up!!
Yep. I never had a dog that liked to dig until we got Chester. Of course, with my other dogs, I had never had a freshley planted flower garden in the yard either! I sure hope he grows out of it before Spring! I want to replant what he dug up!

Thirty Days of Thankfulness - Days 12-15

Today, as I catch up on the days that I missed, I am thankful for many things. First, I am thankful to have a such a wonderful State Park and campground so close to my house. We drive only about 45 minutes to get there and it feels like we are a hundred miles away from home! The state park that I am speaking of is Franklin D. Roosevelt State Park. We go camping there, every chance that we get.

For some reason.... blogger is not cooperating and will not place my paragraphs where I would like them to be! So, please forgive me for the above paragraph being out of whack!

Here's a photo of our campsite. Our camper is the one with the University of Georgia flag on it. This weekend was the "big game" between UGA and Auburn. It has become a tradition for us to camp with a group of friends for this game.

Second... I am thankful for the beauty that God provides for us in the Fall leaves. This year, they seem to be especially bold and bright in color! I was afraid that they might not be, because of the dry summer that we had. But, they really are breathtaking!!

Third.... I am thankful for friends that like to play board games! I am a HUGE board game fan and I am a happy girl when I find friends that want to play, too! I brought several games for this camping trip, but this one was the only one that got played. It's called "Aggrevation". It just so happens to be a game that I grew up playing while on camping trips with my family! What great memores!

Fourth.... I am thankful for dogs that come back when you call them! We took our dogs on a hike and David decided to let them off of their leashes so that they could run. I am terrified of losing my dogs, but thankfully... they came back each time that we called them! In fact they seemed to make it a game to see who could get back to us the fastest!

Fifth.... I am thankful that we were able to watch the UGA game on TV while we were camping! We could only get just a few channels and the channel that we needed, was one of them!! Whew!! (See the TV, just below the UGA flag?) It was a small one, but that was ok!

Here are some more photos from our camping trip this past weekend.

My boys -- Jackson & Chester. **Smile**

We almost stepped on this guy as we were hiking!

Hiking

I love this picture of Jackson! This was one of those times when the "boys" had run ahead, and we were calling them back. -- Just call him "Bat Dog"!

David plays "Washer Toss" with some friends.

Miranda and her childhood best friend -- Elizabeth. She was happy to be able to spend a little bit of time together with her. They go to different colleges and don't get to see each other often, any more.
(You can see that we were playing "Aggrevation" again! **Smile**)

My girls. Miranda is an Auburn fan and Ashley is a Georgia fan.
Nope, we have't quite figured that one out yet!

Now, it's the GIRLS turn to play "Washer Toss". (My team won!)

My beautiful, Ashley.

My handsome, David.

Sadly, the DAWGS (UGA Bulldogs) lost to the undefeated, Auburn.
Hoping for better luck next year.

We had a great weekend, just the same!

*** I think I added one extra day of thankfulness into this post! Oops!! That's ok.

Dog Dreams

I think it's funny to watch my dog dream. Sometimes he barks... (with his mouth "closed", which makes it even MORE funny!). Sometimes, his legs move and twitch as if he is running. Sometimes, he even growls. One time, he "yelped" in his sleep! Too funny!!!
I like to try and imagine what he is dreaming about. Could it be that he is chasing those bunnies that get in the back yard? ... (and sometimes catches, I might add!) Could it be that he is chasing one of his MANY balls that has been thrown for him to "fetch"? Or, could it be that he is feeling the need just to RUN?
I wonder what would make him growl, since he rarely, ever does? Maybe he's protecting our house from an intruder, while we're not home! (Ya, right! Like that's ever going to happen!.... He's a GOLDEN RETRIEVER, one of the friendliest dogs on the planet!)
And the "yelping"?? Maybe he dreamed that he bit his tongue while he was chowing down on one of those rabbits that he caught. Ouch! (and YUCK!)
Whatever he's dreaming about.... I sure do enjoy watching him! I make everyone else be quiet, just so he isn't disturbed and will continue to dream. Then... I end up waking him up with my laughter!!
Here are some photo's that I found of dogs sleeping. Wonder what they are dreaming about??

AND..... Here's my dog (Jackson)... in his favorite napping spot -- my couch!

Pet Peeves #5-8

In an earlier post (4/9/10), I blogged about starting a list of my pet peeves. I vowed to add to this list as I thought of more. So, here it goes....

5. DOG OWNERS WHO LET THEIR DOGS RUN FREE IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD - On my way home today, just as I was exiting the hwy to where I live, I noticed a dead dog... (I know. It's sad!)... right there on the side of the hwy. It looked very much like one that lives in my neighborhood, which isn't far from this hwy & exit ramp. My immediate thought was to think how this could have been avoided IF it's owners had just kept it in their yard, or on a leash.
Unfortunately, the county that I live in does not have a leash law. This is due to the fact that it is still considered a "rural" county. Yes, there is still plenty of undeveloped land here, but.... the county is growing fast with more and more neighborhoods being developed.
What I don't understand is that if the dog owner's LOVED their "pets", then they wouldn't let their "pet" run free and risk the chance of it getting run over by a car!! DUH!!!!! It's not hard to comprehend! We have lived in this same neighborhood for over 10 years and have had a dog the whole time we have lived here. One of the first things that we did when we moved in, was to put up a FENCE so that our beloved "pet" would be safe and also wouldn't disturb our neighbors by going into their yards.

That's another problem.... I do not feel SAFE walking in my own neighborhood because of these so-called "pets" that are running loose! Once, while I was walking my dog ON A LEASH, another big dog ran out of it's yard and attacked my dog!!! Then... the owner had the guts to think that my dog provoked her dog!! UNREAL!! The nerve of some people!

These "pets" also get into our trash if we put it out too early!! So.... I have to remember to take the trash cans to the street right before I leave for work. Any earlier, and the trash cans are dumped over, and trash is dragged from one end of the yard to the other!!

Ok... I'll "shut up" on this one now! Sorry! It gets my blood boiling!!

*** 4/23/10 -- Just wanted to add that... yesterday, I saw the dog that I "thought" was hit by the car. He is fine, and I am glad :)

6. BAD DRIVERS - This fits a wide range of drivers, but I felt it needed to be added to the list. For this category, I would like to include the following:
  • Those drivers who drive faster than those of us that are already going slightly over the speed limit.
  • Those same "fast drivers" who weave in and out of traffic.
  • Those same "fast drivers" who, as YOU are passing a "slow driver" (aka: one who is actually going the speed limit), drive up fast and get on your BUTT until you move out of THEIR WAY!
  • Those drivers who do not know how to MERGE!!!
  • Those drivers who refuse to let YOU merge!!
  • Those drivers who do not use their blinker!
I may have to add to this particular list at a later time. I am sure that I am leaving out something!

7. RUDE PEOPLE - There is no reason for one person to be rude to another. There just aren't any excuses AT ALL! (If you think of one, please let me know! I'd be curious to hear!) I don't care how bad of a day that you are having, please do not take it out on innocent people around you!

8. PEOPLE IN AUTHORITY THAT ENJOY TELLING OTHERS WHAT TO DO - I would also call these people... "People that are on a POWER TRIP". Just because you are someone's boss or you have any kind of authority over someone else, does not give you the right to flaunt your authority, or belittle those that are under you. Now, that I think about it... this would fit nicely under #7 - RUDE PEOPLE, as well.
