This blog is basically just a collection of my "random thoughts". I must warn you, though. I have been told that "I write like I talk", so if you don't understand what you are reading... chances are, if you met me... I wouldn't make much sense to you! Feel free to comment if you care to. Or not. I'm good either way!

T-minus 12 Hours and COUNTING!!

This is me right now....

Well.... obviously, it's not really me! But, this is pretty much what I am doing right now!! I'm watching the clock and waiting. I normally don't mind waiting, but today... I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve!! I can't wait to go to bed so that I can wake up and it will be TIME TO GO!!!

My bags are packed. My chores are done. All I am doing is ..... WAITING!!

I can still remember being in high school, in my last class of the day. I would sit and stare at the classroom clock on the wall and WAIT for the hands to MOVE!! They would take f--o--r--e--v--e--r to get to 3:10, when the bell would ring to let everyone know that the school day was over!

This is how I feel today. Those darn clock hands just WILL NOT MOVE fast enough!!

Haha!!! I just looked at the time that is RIGHT NOW...  and it is EXACTLY the time on THIS CLOCK!! I didn't notice that when I found the picture!!! That is too funny!!! ---- See!! My day really is going by slow!! It's only 1:59pm!!

Oh! But, wait!!! Almost exactly 12 hours from now... I will be waking up to get ready and head to the airport!!! WOW!!!!! I can officially say...

T-minus 12 hours and counting!!!

WAHOO!!!

I Love Freebies!!

Earlier this week, a friend told me about a $10 OFF coupon that the store Pier One was giving away through Facebook.

I immediately clicked on the link and printed out my coupon!!! YAY!! All you had to do was make a $10 purchase and you got $10 off!! It was as simple as that!

So, before the coupon expired.... I stopped by the store to see what I could find to purchase.

Pier One has SOOOO many pretty things!!

I was really hoping to find something to use for my tablescaping.

I looked and looked. And looked some more!! Everything that I liked would have ended up costing me MORE than my $10! --- I think that was their plan!!

I really liked these ----

My pictures didn't turn out so good, since I took them with my phone.... but the light aqua color was SO PRETTY on these dishes! The first picture shows some chargers that were a very light aqua color!! These caught my eye first. Then, I turned the corner and saw this table setting!! LOVED IT!!! But, none of it was in my little $10 budget, unfortunately. WELL.... I "could" have just bought ONE of something! But, how much fun would that have been??

After going around and around the store, many times.... I kept going back to these beautiful acrylic goblet glasses. They are my favorite color and will be fun to use out by my pool!

They were on clearance for $4.98 each. (Regularly $6.50)

Of course.... they didn't quite total up to $10.... so.... I had to purchase something else!!

I ended up with a pair of earrings that I kept going back to. They were $6.50!! Haha! Oh well! At least I got the glasses for free!! **Smile**

(I forgot to take a picture of the earrings. Sorry about that!)

New Books For My Trip

Well, I finally finished that book that I started reading back in June - (I think). I can't remember exactly when I started it, but I always like to find a good book to read in the Summer, when I have more time to read! This is the book that I just finished ----

I really liked this book!! There are 39 chapters, and long about the middle of the 21st chapter... I COULDN'T PUT THE BOOK DOWN!! I mostly read while I was hanging out by (and in!) my pool.

I would start out by laying on my float with my sunglasses on my face, my hat on my head, my foot on the edge of the pool (to keep me in one place!), my cool drink by my side and my book in my hand!! Then... as I got hot... (and I did!!)... I would scoot off of my float and sit on the steps of my pool and prop my feet up on the handrail. Then... I would move to the edge of the pool, where the umbrella gives shade, and stand for a bit, all the while... reading and reading! I only read on Friday & Saturdays, tho.

Last weekend, was when I got to chapter 21!!! Since then... I have not only read by the pool, but everywhere!! I HAD to find out what happened to poor Griff!!! -- Plus, since I was so close to finishing the book, I decided that I wanted to finish it before our trip. That way, I could start a fresh one while we were ON our trip!

Here is what Amazon has to say about the book ---

Foster Speakman, an eccentric Texas paraplegic millionaire, offers $500,000 to Griff Burkett, a disgraced former NFL quarterback fresh out of prison after serving a five-year sentence for racketeering, to impregnate Foster's wife, Laura. Foster insists the child be conceived naturally (The way God intended). Broke with no prospects, Griff takes the job. Meanwhile, Stanley Rodarte, the crooked detective behind Griff's arrest, is bent on pinning an unsolved murder on him and takes to terrorizing Griff and those close to him in the hopes of nailing him when he self-destructs. After Griff's stint as stud takes a bad turn, the ex-footballer must track down the one man who can secure his freedom. The tension builds as lust, greed, pride, wrath and envy threaten to undo everyone in this tightly told tale of modern temptation. (Aug.)

Also --

Foster Speakman and his wife Laura lived a charmed life before fate denied them the one thing they wanted most -- a child. Fresh out of prison and out of prospects, Griff agrees to do a job for the Speakmans that demands secrecy. But he soon finds himself once again in the spotlight of suspicion when an unsolved murder comes back to haunt him. While safeguarding his new enterprise, Griff must also protect those around him, especially Laura Speakman. Griff stands to gain the highest payoff he could ever imagine, but cashing in on it will require him to forfeithis only chance for redemption...and love.

Sounds good, doesn't it?? --- It is!

So, now that I have finished that book... in which I bought at Goodwill, by the way! (I rarely buy books new unless they are a book that I plan on keeping.) .... I needed to find another good one for my trip.

Yes. I have PLENTY of books at home, but I love the fun of "hunting" for a good book! My favorite author is Mary Kay Andrews, and she has a few books that I haven't read yet. Here's the link to the Amazon page where you can see and read about her books -- LINK. Her books are light-hearted & funny. They also usually involve a little bit of romance & mystery. A little bit of it all! She is a Georgia Girl and therefore, most of her books take place in Georgia.

Anyway.... I went to the library in hopes of finding at least ONE of her books that I hadn't read yet. Nope. There weren't any. Well, there was one. It was her Christmas one. I don't think Summer is a good time to read a book that has to do with Christmas. I'll save that one for Winter!

So, then... I started searching for another Sandra Brown book. I saw a few. But, none peaked my interest. I ended up leaving without a book, but made my way back to Goodwill to look there. They have a large selection of books, but they are in NO ORDER what so ever!! So, you have to "crank" your neck to one side in order to read each title and/or author! Luckily, I can spot fiction books pretty easily.

I scanned the shelves and found not one, but THREE books that caught my eye! All three seem to be light-hearted books like Mary Kay's. I do not recognize the authors, but the books seem "fun". Two of them are by the same author -- Beth Harbison. I am not sure if one is a sequel to the other, or not. I decided to first read the one that seems to come first, but bring along the second one as a back up book, in case I finish the first one!

Here's the one that I am going to read first ---

Here's what Amazon has to say about this book ---

From Publishers Weekly

Arriving just in time for beach-read season, the effervescent hardcover (mine is soft-cover!) fiction debut of cookbook author and romance novelist Harbison features four D.C.-area women who meet weekly to swap and chat about... shoes. Trying to get a handle on her massive consumer debt, Lorna Rafferty posts an Internet ad looking to trade footwear with women who have good taste and wear size seven-and-a-half. A senator's trophy wife, Helene Zaharis, is dreaming of escaping her loveless marriage when she stumbles upon Lorna's post. Overweight phone sex operator Sandra Vanderslice struggles to overcome her agoraphobia long enough to attend the shoe meetings. After a few funny missteps, the threesome finds a fourth member, Joss Bowen, the nanny of a shrewish socialite's hellion boys. Joss couldn't care less about shoes, but uses the group as a reason to get out of the house. Harbison does a fine job of showcasing how each woman is trapped—Lorna by her debt, Helene by her marriage, Sandra by her self-image, Joss by her employment contract—and how the fresh eyes of the group allow them to see themselves in a new light. Harbison creates vivid, convincing characters and handles them well. Reading this novel is like eating a slice of cake. (June)

From Booklist

In this entertaining novel set in Washington, D.C., three very different women are brought together by a shared passion: shoes. They meet once a week to trade Manolos and Maglis, but soon they rely on each other for much more. Lorna, a debt-ridden waitress, founded the group to curb her destructive shopping sprees. Helene, a senator's trophy wife, attends to escape her loveless marriage and the banality of high-society life. Sandra, an overweight phone-sex operator, hopes the group can help cure her agoraphobia. They're joined by Joss, a young nanny, who doesn't care about shoes but needs a place to avoid her demanding boss. The four women become fast friends, trusted advisors, and eventually business partners. Readers will root for these four plucky women. Like the designer shoes that pepper its pages, this book is pleasing and stylish. This frothy confection is sure to fly off the shelves this summer.

Like I said... It sounds light-hearted and fun! I'll fill you in on the second one after I finish this one! I love to read in the car, and we'll be in the car quite a LOT! There is a good chance that I will at least finish the first one!

I have to tell you what the clerk at Goodwill said to me when I was checking out...

She saw the books that I was buying and asked (while laughing!!).... "Girl! Do you have a thing for shoes??"  It was quite cute! I had to say... "No. I just have a thing for fun light-hearted books!"

A Fun Day of Thrifting!

Georgia and I had a fun time yesterday. I am SO GLAD that we got together! I don't know why we don't see each other more often.

She arrived at my house about 9:30am. We hung around my house, catching up for a bit and talking about decorating and couponing. She didn't know anything about TABLESCAPING, so I had to tell her all about how I fell IN LOVE with it! She loved my 4th of July Tablescape. **Smile**

I am pretty sure that I taught her a good bit about COUPONING. She had seen those shows on TV called "Extreme Couponing" and wanted to know how to be able to do it like THAT. I told her that I haven't gotten to that point and don't plan to. My goal is just to at least cut my grocery bill in HALF each week. We agreed that to be able to save ANY amount of money on groceries each week would be helpful.

We left my house about 10:30 and headed into town. First, I had to stop at the drug store to renew my RLS medication. We were there longer than expected, but it gave us a little more time to chit-chat. I found out that she also has RLS, but not as bad as I do. (LUCKY!) Her brother & Father also have it.

After that, we headed to the south side of Columbus, which isn't a good part of town... but, I really wanted to go and visit Gina's Junk Thrift & Antique Store!!

Here's a photo that I took ---

I am SO glad that we went!! It was the neatest place!!

First, we checked out the "junk" in the yard. Gina had lots of outdoor furniture and "yard art". Lots of vintage pieces, too. There were several iron tables that I liked and a shelf that would be perfect for my screened-in porch!! I may have to go back for that one!

Next, we ventured inside to see what we could find. Georgia was looking for things for her granddaughter's "Madeline" birthday party that she plans to do for her in October. So, we were looking for things that looked like PARIS. She also wants to build her granddaughter a doll house for her birthday. So, she was looking for "minature" things that could go into the doll house. As for me, I was looking at the antique furniture and for things that I could use for my August tablescape.

We wondered thru each room of the old house. The prices were GREAT! I saw LOTS of pieces of furniture that I would LOVE to have!! I saw lots of vintage linens that I would love to have had, too. There were many things that I would have loved to have bought, but decided not to. (I was on a VERY tight budget!) Georgia only bought a set of salt & pepper shakers. They were very tiny and very cute!

Gina, the shop owner, was very nice and quite funny! Georgia's S&P shakers had two prices on them, but each was marked out with a red "slash". Georgia asked Gina how much they were. Gina said... "Anything with a red "X" thru the price, means that it is half-off." Then, she looked at the pricetag on Georgia's S&P shakers and said... "Well, that's a half-a** 'X', isn't it?" LOL!! (Because it was only a "slash") It was so funny!

We left Gina's glad that we had made the trip, and headed towards downtown Columbus. I was driving and we were on a road that I knew where it dead-ended, but I didn't know the area that we were traveling very well. As we were headed into town, we came to a train that was crossing the road. We stopped, along with the rest of the traffic. The train was almost done crossing... when.... it started BACKING UP!!!! So.... we didn't know what to do! Finally, I realized that people were starting to make their way to the road on the right. So... I did the same and thankfully, we were able to go "around" the train with no problem and get back on our same road! Whew!

We arrived in downtown Columbus. I decided to take Georgia to one of my favorite restaraunts there. It is called The Cannon Brew Pub. Yes, it is a "Pub". But, it is also a restaraunt. I love their Southwestern Wrap sandwich! YUM! The atmosphere is fun, too.

After lunch, we headed to my very favorite Thrift Mall - Joey's!! Georgia LOVED IT, as I knew she would! We went from booth to booth, checking everything out. We put things in our shopping cart to "think" about as we shopped.

Georgia's best find of the day was a Madeline Doll that was in perfect condition!!! It was only $5.95!!!! YAY!! It was PERFECT for her granddaughter's birthday party! She also bought a cute shirt for only a $1.00!

Here's a picture of Georgia with her Madeline Doll. She was SO happy!!  ---

My big find for the day was a board game all about Columbus, GA!! It is from 1980. It's not "real" old, but it is unique, and since I am from Columbus and I now live and work here.... it was special to me and I HAD TO HAVE IT! I put back a few other things that I had in the cart in order to buy this game. It was $10.00. I thought that was fairly reasonable. The only other thing that I bought was a large package of Post-it notes (unopened) for $2.00. I use Post-it notes all the time, so these will come in handy!

Here's a pic of me with my game and one of my Post-it notes --

Here's some pics of my game after I got home and opened it up ---

We headed back to my house around 4:00pm so that Georgia could be back home in time to pick up her daughter from work. Poor Georgia was on the phone throughout our day dealing with the car dealership that was trying to fix her daughter's car. I sure hope that they can figure out what the problem is without it costing them too much more money!

I talked to David throughout the day. (He's in Indianapolis, remember?) He was delayed in Atlanta due to the plane that he was supposed to fly out on, having mechanical trouble. (Glad they found it!!!) I can't remember what time he finally got to Indianapolis, but he DID make it there. He texted me later in the day and said that his company was taking them all on a tour of the Indianapolis Speedway!!! He was excited, but wished that he had brought a camera. He did take a few pics with his phone.

I didn't talk to him again until about 9:00pm. He had been to dinner with the group and was EXHAUSTED!!! So, we didn't talk long. As I write this... he is most likely in the middle of the competition that he is in!! I sure hope that he is doing well and isn't too nervous. I hope that he is able to have fun with it. Knowing him, tho.... he is an anxious MESS!!! LOL! (I probably would be, too!)

Today, I am staying at home. .... Well, I do have a meeting at church tonight for Stephen Ministry.... But, other than that, I will be at home. I need to go see my mom since I haven't been over there this week, but I am also trying to limit my driving so that I only put gas in my car once a week. UGH!! I can't wait to start getting a paycheck again!!! I miss having money!!

Here's a few more pics of things that we saw at Joey's ---

You just might see this as part of my August Tablescape!
This was a new booth that I hadn't seen before!! I LOVED all of the blue & white!! I am a huge fan of it!

These vintage glasses were BEAUTIFUL!! But, they were a little pricey and there were only five. They would go so great with my Winter Tablescape for January, tho!
Button Bouquets!!! I had never seen these before!! LOVE THEM!! I can see all kinds of projects with these!
We loved this vintage Pin Cushion Doll!! Very pretty!!
I'm linking up to the Thrifty Things Friday Party over on The Thrifty Grove. Be sure to visit me over there and all of the other "thrifty" blogging friends!

A Day With a Friend

David left early this morning to drive to Atlanta. He is flying to Indianapolis, Indiana for a competition for work. He was so anxious ... and I guess nervous.... that he barely slept last night!! He left our house around 3:30am. He finally called me about 6:00am to tell me that he was finally at his gate. I am not sure what time his flight leaves.

I think he lands sometime around 10:00am, but I'm not sure. That is the next phone call that I should get. I guess it is good that he is having this experience BEFORE we go on our big trip! Haha!

Today, my friend from high school is coming to spend the day with me! YAY!! Her name is Georgia -- pretty neat since we live IN Georgia! **Smile** She wants me to teach her how to "coupon". I am still learning, but I hope that I can teach her some things that she doesn't already know. She also wants me to take her to some of the Thrift Stores that I go to. I want to take her to one that I haven't been to yet. It's called Gina's Junk Thrift & Antique Store. It's not in a good part of town, but it looks quite interesting!! The other place is called Joey's Thrift Mall (no website). It is my very favorite place!! I'm looking foward to a fun day hanging out with Georgia!

Here's a photo of us from a couple of years ago when we were on our way to a class reunion --

I'm taking my camera with me and hope to take some pictures of our finds! Here's a couple of photos of Gina's Junk Store that I got off of Facebook. Looks interesting, doesn't it??

It Just Gets Better and Better!

I just found out that while we are visiting David's brother and his family in Virginia, we will be spending one of our days on a motorcycle trip through the Shenandoah National Park!!

David's brother has a motorcycle and he is going to borrow a friends motorcycle so that we will have two. It should be a fun day!

Here are some pics that I found online of the park...

Look at that road!!!! WOW!! Photo Source

While we are on our motorcycle adventure, the girls are exited because they will be spending the day with their cousins!! They aren't sure how they are going to spend the day, yet... but, they are talking about going to a big amusement park in Virginia called... Kings Dominion!! I can't help but be a little it jealous. I am a theme park and roller coaster fanatic!! Take a look at a few pics that I found online of the park...

This roller coaster is one that I saw on TV not too long ago. It is named after the famous NASCAR driver, Dale Earnhardt. He was known as "The Intimidator". Photo Source

Beautiful Birds!!

This morning, I was gazing out my kitchen window and saw these beautiful birds on my birdfeeder!!!

They are the American Goldfinch. These photos are from Wikipedia. I have never been good at taking photos of birds on my bird feeder. They always get frightened and fly away before I can get a good picture!

These birds are special to me because I always looked foward to seeing them in the Spring when we lived in Atlanta. Every Spring, they would come and feed on the buds of the tree that was right outside the bay window in my living room! It wouldn't just be a couple of them, either. There would be a whole FLOCK of them! Their color was more dull than these pictured above.

I don't think I have ever seen Goldfinch's in the summertime. Their yellow body is MUCH more vibriant in the summer! They are beautiful!! I only saw a male & a female this morning, but I was thrilled!!

Days Three, Four & Five of our Trip

I didn't finish out the day for Day Three. Oops!

When we leave D.C., we will be heading about an hour south to Spotsylvania, Virginia. I am sure that it will be late when we get there!

This is where David's brother lives. He lives on a lake and has a boat and a wave-runner (jet-ski). We will spend days Four & Five hanging out with him and his family.

His brother is married and has two girls that are 1 & 2 years younger than Miranda. The girls are pictured in the photos in my previous post.

The last time that we saw them was 9 years ago, in December of 2002. This was when David's father died. They drove down to Georgia for the Memorial Service.

All of the girls are all grown up now and I am sad to say that they are not "close" --- meaning that they have not kept in touch over the years very well. It is true that it is difficult to stay close to family that lives so far away.

I am not sure what it will be like for all of them to be together again. My girls are anxious to see their cousins, but I am not so sure how their cousins feel about seeing "them". I would love for them all to get along great and spend time "hanging out". My girls would LOVE that! We'll just have to see what happens.

David is looking forward to spending time with his brother and playing with his "toys" -- the boat & wave-runner! I am just looking forward to some "relaxation"!

Day Three of Our Trip

On day three of our trip... we will be leaving Philadelphia and heading south, in our rental car.

We will drive about 3 hours to our nation's capital...

WASHINGTON
D.C.

The last time that we were there... it was 11 years ago, in 2000. My girls don't remember much of it. Ashley was 13 and Miranda was 9!

Here are a few pics from the last time that we were there --

Miranda & Ashley in front of the White House - 2000

Miranda with her cousins... Shannon & Tori.
Tori, apparently, did not want to be in the picture!

One of my favorite pictures!!

Ashley, with Tori & Shannon in front of Abe Lincoln.
Miranda wouldn't get in the picture this time!! LOL!

The girls taking a rest inside one of the Smithsonian Museums.

We will only be in D.C. for the day. I'm not sure how much we will get to see in just one day, but like last time...we plan to cram as much as we can into it!
